San Jacinto Battleground SHS—the birthplace of Texas—is looking for friendly and motivated volunteers with a RV to serve as site hosts. We require 100 hours of volunteer work a month for couples or 75 hours a month for a single person, and request that volunteers stay for 3 to 6 months.
Primary duties include: cleaning the bathrooms and museum, assisting staff with opening and closing the site, and emptying the site trash cans. Please let us know if you have any specialized skills. Maintenance, mechanic, photography, and crafting skills are all a plus! During the current pandemic, site hosts won’t be asked to interact with the public, and interpretation and education opportunities will be rare. You will be required to work outside occasionally.
This is a volunteer position, meaning no salary is paid, however the RV site and utilities are provided rent-free. Site utilities include: water hookup, sewer hookup, 50 amp power outlets, and laundry facilities. A background check is required of applicants, per Texas Historical Commission regulations. Please be aware that if you are coming from another state besides Texas you will be requested to self-quarantine for two weeks upon arrival.
